What We Can Do

The film Tomorrow (Demain), was extremely impactful, especially after studying the effects global climate change has had on our planet. While the film was a bit too optimistic for this most serious of an issue, it did leave me with an empowering feeling.

While the film may have not been an accurate in the ease in which to support green initiatives or sustainability, it made the crucial appeal for people to get up and contribute their piece. There needs to be more than just one person to alter the opinions of the US administration to begin funding initiatives for cleaner practices, it takes thousands of people getting educated on the issue and uniting under the environment. As Maria stated in class, this film did its job in inspiring people to begin and adopt certain green practices. 

Although changing the US administrations minds regarding climate change will be greatly challenging. Not only has administration expressed its desire to leave the Paris Agreement, but no one is speaking on the subject of the environment issue we are facing. This neglect of such a massive problem is a mirror of the current values of the administration and society. The obsession with accumulating greater amounts of goods in today’s society has led to the ignorance of this growing problem. World renown scientists have long since spoken about the environment issue, and there has been a enormous lack of impactful action by both society and governments. 


For actual transformation to occur educating people about this growing issue and voting for politicians who not only value national security, but environmental security also, is the only option to reduce the massive footprint we are leaving behind.

In class yesterday something very interesting was stated by either Ashley, Manuel, or Professor Douthwaite Viglione on the topic of foreign aid and how it is actually harmful to some developing nations. The greatest issue with how the media portrays foreign aid and the "wonderful" picture that they paint of poverty is that it is not a complete depiction of what the issue actually is. A tie in to my art talk and sending out hopeful messages

María Mendoza - Blog post 1 Last week during my art talk, I really wanted to emphasize the point that there is a lot of social commentary that can be made through various forms of art. In particular, we see contemporary art as a great medium for expressing ideas because it is so recent and relatable to most people. Difficult and uncomfortable topics can be discussed more readily through art, which I believe is essential to its existence. Besides appreciating the beauty of a work, one must also take into consideration the message the artist was trying to convey.
